Chloe Sparrow spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on five hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Maddie Avelar was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Washington Union can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over Central Valley Christian.
Callie Flores made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits (and not a single walk). Flores was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zoe Freitas, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two triples, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Ariana Garcia, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI.
Exeter's loss dropped their record down to 14-9. As for Washington Union, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 9-11.
Washington Union's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Exeter has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Washington Union, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Exeter keep running through batters, or will the Panthers buck the trend?
