Softball Recap: Goochland Bulldogs vs. Louisa County Lions

Goochland extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 9-9 in the process. They fell 6-1 to the Louisa County Lions. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-0 back in April.

Goochland saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Avery Newman, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI. Sadie Grimes also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for Louisa County, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games.

On Louisa County's side, Lily Ruckle tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Ruckle has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Alyssa Hopkins was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Laci Garrett, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Goochland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Louisa County, they will face off against Charlottesville at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in the Lions' favor as the squad sits on six straight wins at home while the Black Knights have been banged up by nine consecutive losses on the road.
