Basketball Recap: Cambria Heights Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Nolan Clawson and Ian Nagel

Cambria Heights was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 63-39 to the Portage Mustangs, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. While losing is never fun, the Highlanders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 532nd, while the Mustangs are ranked 127th).

Despite the defeat, Cambria Heights had strong showings from Ian Nagel, who posted seven points, and Nolan Clawson, who scored nine points.

Portage got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Bode Layo out in front who went 6 of 10 on his way to 15 points. Another player making a difference was Trae Kargo, who went 6 for 12 en route to 15 points.

Cambria Heights' loss dropped their record down to 4-16. As for Portage, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-5.

Cambria Heights has already played their next match, a 66-45 defeat against United on the 31st. As for Portage, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Windber at 7:15 p.m. on February 10th.
