Football Recap: Coral Gables Takes a Loss

Coral Gables fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Northwestern on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They and the Bulls were almost perfectly matched up, but they suffered a 20-19 defeat. While the Cavaliers had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the fifth quarter, where they outscored the Bulls 6-0.

Coral Gables' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Hannah Pascul-Florez, who threw for 124 yards and a pair of TDs, and Semra Obuz, who picked up 65 receiving yards and two scores.

Even if they lost, Coral Gables' defense still kept up the pressure with five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Cristina Sanchis and Saniah Develasco, who racked up all five sacks between them.

Northwestern found their leader in freshman Jade Yacinthe, who rushed for 73 yards and one touchdown on only six carries, and also threw for 169 yards and one TD.

This is the second loss in a row for Coral Gables and nudges their season record down to 5-3. As for Northwestern, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2.

Coral Gables wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 19-6 defeat against Homestead on the 9th. As for Northwestern, they have also already played their next game, a 26-0 victory against Hialeah on the 9th.
