Baseball Recap: Western Alamance's Run of Four Straight Wins Now Over

Western Alamance dropped their record down to 9-7 on Monday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Northwest Guilford Vikings, falling 12-1. The Warriors were not able to make up for their loss to the Vikings from their previous meeting back in March of 2020.

As for Northwest Guilford, their victory bumped their record up to 8-9. Considering they have won six games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

For Northwest Guilford's part, Nic Turner made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Turner is becoming a predictor of Northwest Guilford's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 5-8 when he doesn't). Turner was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Northwest Guilford let Reed Benamati and Preston McGirr run wild. Benamati went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while McGirr went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Northwest Guilford is 6-1 when Benamati posts two or more runs, but 2-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Young, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Western Alamance didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 13-3 defeat against Southeast Guilford on the 15th. As for Northwest Guilford, they have also already played their next match, a 7-0 win against Providence Grove on the 15th.
