Basketball Recap: Natchez Piles Up the Points Against Jefferson County

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Natchez). They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat the Jefferson County Tigers 74-47. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Bulldogs also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2024.

Natchez's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Daylan Haywood, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 16 points in addition to eight assists and five rebounds. Haywood has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last nine times he's played. Another player making a difference was Anthony Givens, who went 7-for-11 on his way to 21 points and seven boards.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Natchez was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2024.

The victory made it two in a row for Natchez and bumps their season record up to 2-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points over those games. As for Jefferson County, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-2 record.

Natchez wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 64-53 victory against Provine on the 21st. As for Jefferson County, they have also already played their next matchup, a 61-14 win against Enterprise on the 21st.
