Softball Recap: Edison's Luck Changes for the Better on Tuesday

Edison had to endure an eight-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past the Weston Ranch Cougars 12-2 on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Vikings needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Edison got a great performance from Alicia Leiva as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Leiva has posted since back in February.

At the plate, Aiyanna Mantua and Naderah Ali did most of the damage at the plate: Mantua scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Ali went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. The dominant performance also gave Mantua a new career-high in RBI (three). Jordan Escobar was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Edison always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .593. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Edison's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 4-11. As for Weston Ranch, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
