Riverview was handed a 32-point defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They escaped with a win against the Westfield Prep Warriors by the margin of a single free throw, 55-54. This was payback for the Pirates, who suffered a 53-44 loss the last time these two teams met.

Riverview's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Caiya Hunter led the charge by shooting 53% from the field to rack up 17 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. Those eight rebounds gave Hunter a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ellie Ortiz, who posted 13 points along with seven assists and five boards.

The victory got Riverview back to even at 1-1. As for Westfield Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 1-1.

Coming up, Riverview will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against Grosse Ile at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. This will be the Pirates' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Westfield Prep, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 60-35 win against Jackson on the 13th.
