Softball Recap: Goshen Central's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak at Home

Goshen Central dropped their record down to 5-2 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Minisink Valley Warriors, falling 10-3. If the Gladiators were looking for revenge after losing 5-1 to the Warriors when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Goshen Central saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addison Freiberger, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. That home run was Freiberger's first of the season.

As for Minisink Valley, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games.

On Minisink Valley's side, Emily Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, Keira Filip and Natalie Rogers did most of the damage at the plate: Filip got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Rogers got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryin Perico, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Goshen Central will head out to face off against Monticello at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The Gladiators are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Minisink Valley, they will head out on the road to challenge Valley Central at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
