Basketball Recap: Jack Primus' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Upsala over Osakis

If Upsala was feeling good fresh off their 82-35 takedown of Long Prairie-Grey Eagle last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Upsala Cardinals fell 63-54 to the Osakis Silverstreaks on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Silverstreaks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 52-34 back in January.

Several Cardinals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jack Primus, who posted 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Primus has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Samuel Laliberte, who scored eight points in addition to six boards and five steals.

Even though they lost, Upsala smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 52 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Upsala's defeat dropped their record down to 17-6. As for Osakis, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-8.

Looking ahead, Upsala will challenge Long Prairie-Grey Eagle at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Osakis, they will venture away from home to take on Minnewaska Area at 5:45 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Minnewaska Area's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.
