Recap: Holmes Aces vs. Hertford County Bears

After flying high against the Camden County Bruins last Friday, The Holmes Aces came back down to earth. Holmes took a 48-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hertford County. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.

Divon Ward and Jonathan Spears certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Ward rushed for 202 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry, while Spears gained 179 total yards and a touchdown. Ward is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played.

Keveon Rodgers was on fire for Hertford County: he threw for 389 yards and five touchdowns while completing 72% of his passes, and also rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Rodgers was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 66 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Rimiez Williams, who picked up 186 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Holmes' defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Hertford County, their win was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-2.

Holmes will head out on the road to face off against Midway at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Cody Ammons and Ward. As for Hertford County, they will be playing at home against St. Pauls at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
