Basketball Recap: Minerva Takes a Loss

Minerva dropped to 4-3 on Tuesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They were outmatched by the Steubenville Big Red and fell 75-46. The contest marked the Lions' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

As for Steubenville, the win keeps them at an undefeated 5-0. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their offensive performance: the team's won by an average of 34 points thus far.

It was another big night for Santino Haney, who went 9-for-16 to rack up 23 points in addition to six assists and six boards. Haney is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Cole Bowers, who shot 62% from the field on his way to 19 points and three steals.

Looking ahead, Minerva will finish 2025 at home by hosting Fairless at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Lions will be up against the Falcons' rather soft defense (which has allowed 69.17 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. Steubenville and Wheeling Central Catholic will round out the year against one another at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday. The Big Red will need to watch out since the Maroon Knights have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
