Baseball Recap: Covington Catholic Takes a Loss

Covington Catholic had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 12-9 to make it four. They came up short against the Elder Panthers, falling 8-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Colonels have suffered since March 30th.

As for Elder, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games.

For Elder's part, they got a great performance from Brady Andriacco as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Andriacco a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

At the plate, Carson Smith was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Aidan Porzell also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Coming up, Covington Catholic will take on Simon Kenton at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Elder, they will head out to face off against Columbus North at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bull Dogs have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
