Softball Recap: Pelion Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Pelion ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Strom Thurmond Rebels, sneaking past 6-5. The win was nothing new for the Panthers as they're now sitting on four straight.

Elizabeth Sox spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Savanna Padgett, who fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-5. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alexia Hansen, who scored two runs while going 4-for-5.

Padgett wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Pelion lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Pelion pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Strom Thurmond, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-5.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Pelion Panthers duke it out with Ninety Six Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Strom Thurmond, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on North Augusta at 6:00 p.m. on the 15th.
