Baseball Recap: Charlotte Drops Season-High Score on Sexton

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Charlotte). Everything went their way against the Sexton Big Reds on Tuesday as they made off with an 18-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Orioles in their matchups with the Big Reds: they've now won six in a row.

Jackson Stewart and Christian Powers made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Stewart pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Powers pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Stewart has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Stewart went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBI, while Powers went 1-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. That home run was Powers' first of the season.

In other batting news, Charlotte got a massive performance out of Karter Jackson, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Jackson also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ty Bowzer, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs and three RBI.

Charlotte was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .593. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Charlotte pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Sexton, they are on a 23-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Coming up, Charlotte will look to defend their home field on Friday against Haslett at 4:00 p.m. As for Sexton, they will head out on the road to challenge Jackson at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
