Baseball Preview: Surry County Cougars vs. Cumberland Dukes        
        
		
            The Surry County Cougars are taking a road trip to  challenge the Cumberland Dukes  at 5:00  p.m.  on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Surry County has three straight  wins, Cumberland has four straight  losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Surry County barely beat West Point the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars put the hurt on the Pointers with a sharp  12-3 victory on Monday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by seven  runs or more this season.
 The team  relied heavily on  Dawson Keckler, who  went 2-for-3 with three  stolen bases, three  runs,  and one  double. That's the most  hits  he has posted since back in May of 2024.  Bradley Boller also deserves some recognition as  he  got his first  hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Cumberland came up short against  Amelia County on Thursday, falling  15-1.
 Cumberland saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was  Ayden Brodie, who  went 1-for-2 with one  stolen base. Brodie has been hot recently, having  posted  at least one  stolen base the last four times he's  played.
 Cumberland's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Surry County, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp  on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Surry County has been swiping bases left and right this season,  having  averaged 11.3  stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cumberland struggles in that department as   they've been averaging 2.9  stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
 Surry County skirted past Cumberland  2-1 when the teams last played  back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the  team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
