Baseball Game Preview: Fremont Firebirds vs. Silver Creek Raiders

The Fremont Firebirds will square off against the Silver Creek Raiders at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Fremont's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Silver Creek's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Thursday, Fremont didn't have quite enough to beat Cupertino and fell 5-4.

Meanwhile, Silver Creek is still undefeated this season after their game against Gunderson on Thursday, but Gunderson came as close as anyone has to beating them. Silver Creek came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 11-10 W against Gunderson. While the Raiders didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Cayleb Duran was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Nicholas Prum was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Joseph 'JoJo' Montenegro was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Fremont's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 6-3. As for Silver Creek, they pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

Fremont took their victory against Silver Creek in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0. Does Fremont have another victory up their sleeve, or will Silver Creek turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
