Elgin/Pope John hadn't done well against Ainsworth recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Wolfpack took their contest with ease, bagging a 48-7 win over the Bulldogs. The game marked the Wolfpack's most dominant victory of the season.

When it comes to explaining why Ainsworth lost, don't look at Chris Fernandez. Despite the final result, he rushed for 109 yards and one TD, and also threw for 133 yards on 21 of 34 attempts.

Elgin/Pope John pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to yards per carry: they averaged an imposing 6.03 yards per carry in those games compared to only 2.42 in the others. As for Ainsworth, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-7.
