Baseball Recap: Eric Aguilar Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Newman Smith

Lone Star came out on top against Newman Smith on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run third inning. The Rangers never let the Trojans get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Rangers in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won seven in a row.

Will Moore looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

At the plate, Lone Star saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eric Aguilar, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. The Rangers are undefeated when Aguilar posts two or more runs, but 8-18 otherwise.

Lone Star kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.

Lone Star's record now sits at 11-18. As for Newman Smith, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 15 of their last 16 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-18-2 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lone Star will venture away from home to square off against Highland Park at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Scots' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Rangers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Newman Smith, they are taking a road trip to take on Boswell at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Pioneers will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight.
