Basketball Recap: Thunderbird Adventist Academy Takes a Loss

Thunderbird Adventist Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They had to suffer through a 45-16 loss at the hands of the Arrowhead Christian Academy Eagles. While losing is never fun, Thunderbird Adventist Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 220th, while Arrowhead Christian Academy is ranked 78th).

Thunderbird Adventist Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Mun Sumlut and Amer Agok. Sumlut posted eight points in addition to 13 rebounds and four steals, while Agok had four points. Sumlut is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season.

Even though they lost, Thunderbird Adventist Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Arrowhead Christian Academy found their leader in sophomore Leah Rubio, who went 8 for 13 en route to 16 points and three steals. Iliana Luttenegger also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Thunderbird Adventist Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Arrowhead Christian Academy, they pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Tri-City Christian Academy the next time they take the court. Thunderbird Adventist Academy will host Tri-City Christian Academy at 5:20 p.m. on Thursday, while Arrowhead Christian Academy will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
