Softball Recap: Marcellus Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Marcellus extended their winning streak to three on Thursday, bumping them up to 6-4. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Bangor Vikings. While the Wildcats didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Elin Essex was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Essex was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

Essex wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Hannah Sharp, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.

As for Bangor, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 9-6. They have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Like Marcellus, Bangor also got a great game from a two-way player: Isabelle Horvath. She struck out 11 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Horvath has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Marcellus will have a chance to go back-to-back against Bangor: the pair will be back at it again later today.
