Basketball Recap: Spoto Spartans vs. Strawberry Crest Chargers
Spoto was the 63-55 winner over Strawberry Crest when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Spoto Spartans fell 81-68 to the Strawberry Crest Chargers on Wednesday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (57), the Spartans still had to take the loss.
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jesse Harden, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 21 rebounds. Harden has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Donovan McSwain was another key player, posting 11 points in addition to eight assists and four blocks.
Strawberry Crest got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jayson Lewis out in front who went 7 for 14 en route to 17 points plus seven assists and six steals. The dominant performance gave Lewis a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Cameron Crowe, who went 8 for 19 en route to 23 points plus five steals.
Spoto's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Strawberry Crest, their victory ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-0.
