Recap: Monterey Trail Mustangs vs. River City Raiders

Monterey Trail was the 9-3 winner over River City when they last played one another back in April of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Monterey Trail Mustangs fell just short of the River City Raiders by a score of 5-4 on Tuesday.

Dakota Bumbaca made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Alayah Duarte was another key contributor, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Even though they lost, Monterey Trail didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with nine strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as River City only tossed three.

On River City's side, Jessalyn Kee made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Kee has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive pitching appearances. Kee was also big at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a triple and a run.

In other batting news, Maddie Godina was excellent, going 2-for-3 with a triple, a stolen base, and a run. Another player making a difference was Alexia Menke, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Monterey Trail's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for River City, their victory bumped their record up to 2-4.

Monterey Trail will play host again on Friday to welcome Kennedy, where first pitch is scheduled at 4:00 p.m. As for River City, they will head out on the road to face off against Franklin at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
