Baseball Game Preview: Classical Purple vs. Providence Country Day Knights

The Classical Purple are taking a road trip to square off against the Providence Country Day Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Classical is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 18 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against North Smithfield on Monday. They fell just short of the Northmen by a score of 3-2. The Purple have struggled against the Northmen recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Joseph Payamps was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Allen Espinal was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.

Meanwhile, Providence Country Day suffered their biggest loss since May 24, 2024 on Saturday. They lost 14-6 to Tolman.

Classical's record now sits at 3-12. As for Providence Country Day, their record is now 7-6.

Classical was able to grind out a solid victory over Providence Country Day in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 6-1. Will the Purple repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
