St. Luke's scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Rye Country Day, 26-20. At the time, the Wildcats were ranked 11th in the state, while the Storm were 26th.
Hackley was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Hamden Hall Country Day. The Hornets came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 335 last week.
Hamden Hall Country Day's dynamic duo of TJ Linta and Michael Breuler proved tough for Hackley to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Linta threw for 453 yards and four touchdowns and Breuler had 180 yards receiving. Nick Linta helped Hamden Hall Country Day's passing attack out by catching six balls for 135 yards.
Joey Santoro was the most productive running back in Fairchester this week. He ran for 206 yards on 23 carries as King Low Heywood Thomas lost to Phillip Treglia's team. Teammate Brian Alebiuso added to the ground attack by rushing for 172 yards.
Hamden Hall Country Day's Linta and Breuler have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Linta has thrown for 1526 yards this season, while Breuler, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 39 catches for 617 yards. Kingswood-Oxford's Sharrieff Grice leads the league in rushing yards with 890.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Hornets take on the Vikings. Hackley's offense has scored 241 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while King Low Heywood Thomas has allowed only 42 on the year.
A big matchup in Fairchester this week will be when the Hornets take on Danny Gouin's team. As it stands, Hackley is in third, while the Vikings are in second.
The Hornets moved up to 25 from 335 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Hackley was able to make the jump by defeating Hamden Hall Country Day 55-32.
