Baseball Game Preview: Mead Panthers vs. Ferris Saxons

Mead has gone a perfect 10-0 against Ferris recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Panthers will welcome the Saxons at 4:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Mead is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Cheney 5-4. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Blackhawks: they've now won four in a row.

Ethan Patsfield was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Patsfield wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lucius Spielman, who went 1-for-3 with one run. Owen Denison also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Ferris sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over Lewis & Clark on Thursday. That's two games straight that the Saxons have won by just one run.

Ferris' win ended a 15-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-10. As for Mead, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 2-10.

Mead skirted past Ferris 6-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Saxons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
