Baseball Recap: Coronado Find Success

Coronado came out on top against Mesa Ridge on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run first inning. The Cougars took their contest against the Grizzlies 9-4. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Grizzlies recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Turner Whitney was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Coronado is undefeated when Whitney posts one or more home runs, but 6-12 otherwise. Milo Gonzalez also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Coronado's record now sits at 9-12. As for Mesa Ridge, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-13.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Coronado will venture away from home to take on Canon City at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Mesa Ridge, they are taking a road trip to challenge Widefield at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Grizzlies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Gladiators have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
