Soccer Game Preview: River Islands vs. Vanguard College Prep

The River Islands Riptide will square off against the Vanguard College Prep Lions at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. River Islands' offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for three straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

River Islands is looking to tack another W on to their season record, something they couldn't quite do against Aspire Langston Hughes Academy on Wednesday. Neither River Islands nor Aspire Langston Hughes Academy could gain the upper hand so the two teams had to settle for a 0-0 draw.

Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous five contests, Vanguard College Prep brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. Their defense stepped up to hand Delta Charter a 6-0 shutout on Wednesday. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by four goals or more this season.

With that draw, River Islands' record moves to 4-13-1. As for Vanguard College Prep, the win got them back to even at 7-7-2.

River Islands came up short against Vanguard College Prep in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 2-0. Can River Islands avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
