Baseball Recap: Lyons Takes a Loss

Lyons easily dispatched Hinsdale Central on Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Lions fell just short of the Willowbrook Warriors by a score of 4-2 on Saturday. The Lions were not able to make up for their loss to the Warriors from their previous meeting back in May of 2021.

Lyons got a good showing from Luka Luburic, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the first time Luburic hasn't allowed a single earned run over his last four matches.

At the plate, Lyons saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cam Clarke, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that Clarke has hit this season.

Lyons' defeat dropped their record down to 18-7. As for Willowbrook, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-6 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lyons will venture away from home to challenge Downers Grove North at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season. As for Willowbrook, they will challenge Oak Park-River Forest at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
