Softball Recap: Chesapeake Drops Season-High Score on Grace Christian

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chesapeake). They were the clear victors by a 19-9 margin over Grace Christian on Saturday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 18-8 on Saturday.

Haylee Lafon made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off 11 hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Jaeden Anderson was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. KJ Collins was another key player, going 2-for-3 with five stolen bases and three runs.

The victory made it two in a row for Chesapeake and bumps their season record up to 6-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.5 runs over those games. As for Grace Christian, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chesapeake will welcome Ironton at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Fighting Tigers have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season. As for Grace Christian, they will host Cross Lanes Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
