Softball Game Preview: Faith Baptist Contenders vs. Santa Paula Cardinals

The Faith Baptist Contenders will take on the Santa Paula Cardinals at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Faith Baptist is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.

On Thursday, Faith Baptist got the win against Palmdale Academy Charter School by a conclusive 21-3. Considering the Contenders have won four contests by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Keira Correos was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Correos was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, five runs, and three RBI. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two).

In other batting news, Hailey Coronel was a standout: she fired off two home runs, five runs, and seven RBI while going 5-for-5. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lianna Palacios, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-4.

Faith Baptist was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .535. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Santa Paula's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They came up short against Newbury Park, falling 17-3.

Santa Paula's defeat dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Faith Baptist, the victory got them back to even at 5-5-1.
