Softball Recap: Orting Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Orting dropped their record down to 10-9-1 on Thursday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins at home. They took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of Franklin Pierce. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Franklin Pierce this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-5 back in March.

Katie Arnett made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Madalynn Halte was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Franklin Pierce, they pushed their record up to 14-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.

On Franklin Pierce's side, Leila Kennach and Kiley Sledge made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Kennach tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Sledge struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Kennach went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI, while Sledge got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs Kennach has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kallie Sullivan, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Lindsay Gade also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Looking ahead, Orting will face off against Kingston at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Franklin Pierce does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
