Baseball Game Preview: Cathedral Phantoms vs. Brawley Wildcats

The Cathedral Phantoms will take on the Brawley Wildcats in a tournament on Tuesday. Cathedral is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.

Monday just wasn't the day for Cathedral's offense. They fell just short of St. Francis by a score of 1-0 on Monday.

Cathedral got a good showing from Nicholas Overton, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, Overton gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in March.

Meanwhile, Brawley fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Palm Desert on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Aztecs by a score of 5-4. The Wildcats' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Sergio Garcia was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Garcia was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Jacob Magana made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Tate Preece was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Brawley now has a losing record of 9-10. As for Cathedral, their record is now 9-9.
