Softball Recap: Zeeland West Snags Sixth Win in Last Seven Games

Zeeland West had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Wyoming on Saturday. The Dux never let the Wolves get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Dux have posted against the Wolves since March 23, 2017.

Sadie Kragt made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Maddi Veersma was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bri Kamer, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Zeeland West was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Zeeland West is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for Wyoming, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season.

Zeeland West will be playing in front of their home fans against Calvin Christian at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Squires have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.5 runs per game on average), something the Dux will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Wyoming, they will welcome West Catholic at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
