Coronado faced Discovery Canyon in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Cougars fell 3-1 to the Thunder. The Cougars' defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

The loss didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Discovery Canyon scored at least 18 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-21, 18-25, 25-18.

Gavin Mason paced Coronado's offense, picking up 26 kills. Mason got some help from Paolo Piuma and his 36 assists. Finally, Jalyn Jarboe and Sebastian Steger kept the team grounded on defense, each having blocked three attacks.

Coronado's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 12-1 and their overall record down to 18-2. As for Discovery Canyon, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.

Coronado has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Doherty on the 19th. As for Discovery Canyon, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-2 victory against Pueblo South on the 19th.
