Baseball Game Preview: Capistrano Valley Cougars vs. Trabuco Hills Mustangs

The Capistrano Valley Cougars will take on the Trabuco Hills Mustangs at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Capistrano Valley 3.7, Trabuco Hills 2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Capistrano Valley is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past El Toro 14-5 on Friday. The Cougars not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since February 24th (when they won 10-1).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Talon Spencer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Charlie Fuller, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Trabuco Hills narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Tesoro 2-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Mike DeFrancesca looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Trabuco Hills' victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Daniel Van De Kreeke, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Trabuco Hills' win bumped their record up to 17-7-1. As for Capistrano Valley, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-12-1.
