Basketball Preview: Weld Central Rebels vs. University Bulldogs
Weld Central is 0-7 against University since February of 2021 but things could change on Tuesday. The Weld Central Rebels will be playing at home against the University Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Friday, Weld Central ended up a good deal behind Eaton and lost 72-53. While losing is never fun, the Rebels can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 295th, while the Reds are ranked 108th).
Meanwhile, University came up short against Sterling on Friday and fell 59-49.
Weld Central will have to contain Coehn Nitzel as he made an impact in University's last game. He almost dropped a double-double with 17 points and nine boards. Nitzel has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 19 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Marcus Prestwich, who posted seven points and three steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Weld Central and nudges their season record down to 2-17. As for University, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-4.
Weld Central was taken down by University 73-29 in their previous meeting back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of University's John Elbe, who went 6-for-8 from beyond the arc on his way to 37 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals.
