The Segerstrom Jaguars will square off against the Fullerton Indians at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Having struggled with five losses in a row, Segerstrom turned things around against Garden Grove on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 12-4 margin over the Argonauts. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Jaguars considering their one-run performance the game before.
Meanwhile, while Fullerton put up some runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Ocean View. The Indians put the hurt on the Seahawks with a sharp 10-0 victory. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.
Katelynn Mathews was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 17 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaylyn Yi, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Abby Lee was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Fullerton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ocean View only posted a batting average of .000.
Fullerton has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Segerstrom, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 11-12.
