Basketball Recap: Elkhorn South Skates Past Omaha Northwest with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Elkhorn South). They really took it to the Omaha Northwest Huskies for the full four quarters, racking up an 83-36 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Storm have posted since January 19, 2024.

Elkhorn South found their leader in freshman Liv Schieber, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. Schieber also set a new season-high mark in steals with four. Another player making a difference was Mollie Probasco, who went 6 of 14 en route to 14 points and eight rebounds.

Elkhorn South smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Loss or not, Omaha Northwest got some senior leadership from Abriya Watkins and Jessica Houston. Watkins went 6 of 13 on her way to 18 points, while Houston almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards. That was a full 50% of Omaha Northwest's points, marking the ninth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

The win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-7. As for Omaha Northwest, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-7.

Elkhorn South wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 70-59 defeat against Bellevue East on the 11th. As for Omaha Northwest, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 58-42 loss against Norfolk on the 10th.
