Basketball Recap: Universal Academy vs. Grind Prep G.R.I.N.D
After flying high against Hampton Prep on Wednesday, Universal Academy came back down to earth. Universal Academy took a 72-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of the G.R.I.N.D on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Universal Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 342nd in Texas, while the G.R.I.N.D are ranked ninth in Oklahoma).
Despite the loss, Universal Academy had strong showings from Cyrus Shaw, who scored 26 points, and Kamran Reese, who scored 19 points. Another player making a difference was Paul Webb, who scored eight points.
Universal Academy has not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season. As for Grind Prep, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-5.
Universal Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Bears at 3:00 p.m. on February 2nd. BigTyme Prep Academy will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. As for Grind Prep, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Fire at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
