Preview: South Bend Riley Wildcats vs. Penn Kingsmen

The South Bend Riley Wildcats will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Penn Kingsmen at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. South Bend Riley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully Penn likes a good challenge.

South Bend Riley posted their biggest win yet this season on Thursday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 81-43 victory over South Bend Clay. Given South Bend Riley's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while South Bend Clay is ranked 227th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Penn suffered their closest loss yet this season on Friday. They fell just short of Mishawaka Marian by a score of 31-28. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Penn has scored all season.

South Bend Riley's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.7 points per game. As for Penn, their loss dropped their record down to 9-4.

Things could have been worse for South Bend Riley, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 76-61 loss to Penn in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Thankfully for South Bend Riley, Markus Burton (who scored 37 points along with six rebounds and four steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
