Standley Lake had won six straight games and Derrek Sims did his part to make it seven on Wednesday. The Standley Lake Gators walked away with a 52-39 victory over the Golden Demons thanks in part to Sims, who went 7-for-15 en route to 22 points along with five rebounds and four steals. He has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 12 times he's played.
Golden's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Sam Schillie, who posted 11 points and three steals, and Leif Hansen, who had nine points and seven boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Zach Orser, who earned six points and five rebounds.
Standley Lake pushed their record up to 17-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.2 points over those games. As for Golden, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-10.
Coming up, Standley Lake will square off against Englewood at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Englewood knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Standley Lake likes a good challenge.
