Volleyball Recap: Maya Soungpradith and Alivia Franzel Secure Win for Olentangy

Olentangy's game on Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They blew past the New Albany Eagles 3-0. The Braves haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

While Olentangy won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the first set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 25-15, 25-15.

Olentangy was led to victory by Alivia Franzel and Maya Soungpradith. Franzel had 22 assists and five aces, while Soungpradith had 19 digs and two aces. Those five aces gave Franzel a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Cisler, who had eight digs and two aces.

They weren't the only good server: Olentangy was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 13 aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Albany only served six aces.

When it comes to explaining why New Albany lost, don't look at Aline Bhat. Despite the final result, she had 18 digs and three assists. Bhat is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last 12 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Sutton Romer, who had three digs, three aces, and one block.

Olentangy's record now sits at 2-3. As for New Albany, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

Coincidentally, Olentangy and New Albany will both be playing Olentangy Liberty the next time they take the court. The Eagles will host the Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while the Braves will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
