Football Game Preview: Hagerty Huskies vs. Oviedo Lions

Hagerty hasn't had much luck against Oviedo recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Huskies will head out on the road to square off against the Lions at 7:00 p.m. That game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Royce Jenkins and Brock Joyce.

Hagerty is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Lake Mary on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Huskies took a blow against the Rams, falling 55-17. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 125th, while the Rams are ranked 33rd).

Makiye McBurse put forth a good effort for the losing side as he picked up 102 receiving yards and one score. Ian Thornsbury also deserves some recognition as he passed for his first passing yards of the season.

Hagerty didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kyler Mcburse and Cruz Salazar.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Oviedo). They took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 64-0 win over Wekiva. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Lions with their most commanding win of the season.

Oviedo's win came from a few key players Hagerty will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Sebastian Galeano, who threw for 117 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes. He has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last four times he's played. DaShon Febres also helped with two TDs in total.

The victory made it two in a row for Oviedo and bumps their season record up to 3-2. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 points in those games. As for Hagerty, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.

Hagerty ended up a good deal behind Oviedo when the teams last played back in October of 2024, losing 42-28. Can the Huskies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
