Basketball Game Preview: Roosevelt Rough Riders vs. San Joaquin Memorial Panthers

The Roosevelt Rough Riders will venture away from home to face off against the San Joaquin Memorial Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Roosevelt knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten matchups -- so hopefully San Joaquin Memorial likes a good challenge.

Last Wednesday, it was close, but Roosevelt sidestepped Bullard for a 77-75 win. That's two games straight that the Rough Riders have won by exactly two points.

Roosevelt's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cobi Posas led the charge by dropping a double-double on 23 points and 12 boards. The contest was Posas' tenth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Terrell Sutherland, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.

Meanwhile, San Joaquin Memorial entered their tilt with Sanger on Wednesday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They took down the Apaches 62-45. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 49th, while the Apaches are ranked 158th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Roosevelt's victory bumped their record up to 13-7. As for San Joaquin Memorial, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-4.

Roosevelt suffered a grim 94-68 defeat to San Joaquin Memorial in their previous matchup back in February of 2019. Can Roosevelt avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
