League recap: Middle Creek extends winning streak with victory over Holly Springs

4A Conference 13 recap October 22, 2013

Middle Creek extended the longest winning streak in 4A Conference 13 this week by beating Holly Springs, 35-14. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.

Middle Creek took down the Golden Hawks 35-14 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Holly Springs' offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Will Forrestal threw for 139 and 1 touchdown and Jordan Kornegay had 95 yards receiving. On the ground Trey Staten contributed 118 yards. Kelvin Wilson helped Holly Springs' passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 27 yards.

Will Orbin's team's dynamic duo of Forrestal and Kornegay proved to be unstoppable against Mike Castellano's team, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Wilson helped Holly Springs' passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 27 yards.

Green Hope's Luke Massei and Elijah Murrane have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Massei has thrown for 1,834 yards this season, while Murrane has 55 catches for 660 yards. Staten from the Golden Hawks leads the league in rushing with 1,108 yards.

The Falcons' Massei is within 166 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against Holly Springs.

Dominique Lynch of the Athens Drive is only 30 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 163 carries Lynch has accumulated 970 yard this year.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Green Hope takes on the Golden Hawks. Kwame Dixon's team is in fourth place, while Holly Springs is in third place.

The league will see a high scoring game when the Falcons and the Golden Hawks face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Green Hope comes in having scored 185 this season, while Holly Springs has scored 241.

Cary made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,767 from 6,358. The advance stemmed from a 27-15 victory over Apex last week.
