Football Game Preview: George Ranch Longhorns vs. Fulshear Chargers

The George Ranch Longhorns will take on the Fulshear Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

George Ranch played in-conference for the first time on Thursday and got just the result they were looking for. They walked away with a 40-31 victory over Alief Elsik. The win continues a trend for the Longhorns in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won six in a row.

George Ranch can attribute much of their success to Tony Morrison, who threw for 318 yards and three TDs while completing 84.6% of his passes, and Hayden Drinkard, who rushed for 157 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Drinkard's rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his ninth straight game with at least 101 rushing yards dating back to last season. A healthy portion of Morrison's aerial production (105 yards to be exact) went to Nick Perez.

Another reason for the win was George Ranch's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Leading the way was Chinedu Umah with two. He also made six total tackles, which is notable because George Ranch is 2-1 when he posts at least three total tackles, but 1-3 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Fulshear unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 42-38 to Strake Jesuit. The Chargers were up 14-0 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

George Ranch will need to focus on slowing down Ryland Forks, one of several Fulshear players who made an impact when they last played. He picked up 84 receiving yards and one score. The team also got some help courtesy of Shaan Patel, who threw for 241 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.5 yards per attempt.

Fulshear's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-3. As for George Ranch, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.

George Ranch was taken down by Fulshear 66-7 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Longhorns were down 52-7.
