Softball Recap: St. Charles Drops Season-High Score on Montrose

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Charles). They blew past the Montrose Rams 14-4 on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bulldogs considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Ella Mose was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Kylie Fiting and Allison Zelinko did most of the damage at the plate: Fiting went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Zelinko went 2-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and one stolen base. Fiting also put up a stolen base, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kendall Harger, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one triple.

St. Charles always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win snapped St. Charles' losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 2-8 record. As for Montrose, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 0-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Charles will host Coleman at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Montrose, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Carrollton at 4:00 p.m.
