Softball Game Preview: George West Longhorns vs. Aransas Pass Panthers

The George West Longhorns will face off against the Aransas Pass Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. George West has given up an average of 12.1 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

George West came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Taft, falling 12-1. The Longhorns haven't had much luck with the Greyhounds recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Meanwhile, Aransas Pass was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 8-4 to Odem.

Karlie Jones spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered eight runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 16 Ks. Those 16 strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, Alyze Garza made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Aizlynn Ramirez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Aransas Pass' loss dropped their record down to 4-9-1. As for George West, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-11.

Everything went George West's way against Aransas Pass in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as George West made off with a 15-0 win. Does George West have another victory up their sleeve, or will Aransas Pass turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
