Softball Recap: Northside Mustangs vs. Regina Dominican Panthers

Northside had lost 14 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 4-13 to make it 15. They fell just short of the Regina Dominican Panthers by a score of 11-9. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Northside got a big performance out of Jilliyn Yung, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Yailyn Medina, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

As for Regina Dominican, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 11-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games.

On Regina Dominican's side, Olivia Fraterrigo was excellent, going 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Clare Levar, who earned three RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

Looking ahead, Northside will head out to take on Payton College Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Regina Dominican, they are taking a road trip to face off against Woodlands Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season.
